SHREVEPORT, La. — Tuesday’s vote left Shreveport City Court District 2, Division D unresolved, sending the top two finishers into a Dec. 12 showdown after a crowded field split the ballots.
Kharmen Davis-Taylor finished ahead of the pack with 6,041 ballots, about 37.1 percent. Sitting Judge Sheva Sims was next at 5,712, or 35 percent. Trinicia Leonard trailed with 4,548, or 27.9 percent, and dropped out of contention.
A second local canvass put Davis-Taylor near 5,993 and Sims near 5,688, with Leonard around 4,521. The ranking stayed the same either way: Davis-Taylor and Sims move on, and Leonard does not.
Elsewhere in Caddo Parish, voters picked a new district judge for the 1st Judicial District Court seat in Election Section 3, Division F. Hugo Holland Jr., a Republican and former parish prosecutor, took 13,349 ballots, or 51.4 percent. Democrat Treneisha Jackson Hill finished with 12,636, or 48.6 percent. The gap was 713 votes.
Holland will replace Michael Pitman, who stepped away from the race. Across the rest of the local bench, most Caddo district and city court offices drew no challengers, so several criminal and civil judges simply kept their seats.
City Court Division D now turns on the December runoff. Early returns already made clear that no one in the first round cleared half the vote, which is why the calendar stretches into mid-December for that one open municipal judgeship.
Residents who cast ballots Tuesday will get another chance in that municipal race, while the Caddo district result stands as a finished contest from the same Election Day slate across northwest Louisiana.
