SHREVEPORT, La. — Most incumbents on the Shreveport City Council kept their seats in Tuesday’s election, while one open seat on the council will be settled in a December runoff, unofficial returns show.
In District A in north Shreveport, council chairwoman Tabatha Taylor won easily over Hanh Williams. District B incumbent Gary Brooks beat back a crowded field of challengers, taking a little over 52%.
Councilman Jim Taliaferro kept the District C seat with 66% of the vote. In District E, Councilman Alan Jackson avoided a runoff in a closely watched race, taking 57%.
District G incumbent Ursula Bowman also won comfortably, drawing 59% of the vote against challengers Derrick Henderson and Steven Hall in the race for the west Shreveport seat.
The council will still see new faces. Term limits kept two sitting members, Grayson Boucher and James Green, off this year’s council ballot. Tim Euler, who had no opponent, won the District D seat in southeast Shreveport that Boucher now holds.
District F remains undecided. Lester Smith finished first at 45%, and Billy Anderson drew 42%. Because neither topped 50%, the two will meet again in a runoff set for Saturday, Dec. 12, under Louisiana’s rule that sends the top two finishers to a second round when no one wins a majority. Billy Anderson Jr. and Smith are competing to represent District F.
Green ran for another office and lost. Caddo Parish Commissioner John Atkins beat him with 59% of the vote to Green’s 41%.
In the race for district attorney, incumbent James Stewart won another term outright, finishing with more than 54% of the vote against state Sen. Alan Seabaugh, who had about 41%, and two other candidates.
