Boucher Backs Alan Jackson in District E Race in Shreveport

SHREVEPORT, La. — A Republican leaving the Shreveport City Council is throwing his support behind a Democratic colleague. Grayson Boucher, who has held the District D seat since 2018, said Sunday on Facebook that he wants voters to give Councilman Alan Jackson another term in District E.

Boucher pointed to experience as the main reason. He said the two men do not see eye to eye on everything, but that time spent on the council matters when hard calls come up, and he called Jackson a person of real integrity. With his own tenure winding down, Boucher said the city needs members who know the job and can work across differences.

Jackson, a Democrat, is not running unopposed. He faces two fellow Democrats, Francine Brown and Alvin Oliver, on the Nov. 3 ballot.

He first joined the council by appointment. Then-Gov. John Bel Edwards named him to the District E seat in December 2021, and he won a full term in a December 2022 runoff.

The seat appears on the Louisiana Secretary of State candidate list as Councilman District E, City of Shreveport, and the candidates show up on the ballot in the order the state lists them.

The backing crosses party lines. Boucher is a Republican, while Jackson and both of his challengers are Democrats, so the District E contest will be settled among members of one party no matter who wins. Boucher urged his own friends and neighbors in the city to vote for Jackson, saying the experience Jackson has built on the council is worth keeping as his own time on the council ends.
