SHREVEPORT, La. — Tuesday is the final chance for Shreveport, La., area voters to cast an early ballot before the Nov. 3 election, and turnout in Caddo and Bossier parishes has already outrun the last midterm.
Caddo Parish had logged 18,209 early votes as of Sunday, and Bossier Parish had 9,800. Both counts are well above where they stood just days earlier, when Caddo showed 7,103 and Bossier 3,680. They also top the full early voting totals from the 2022 midterm, when Caddo recorded 17,073 and Bossier 8,819.
Lines have been long at times. At the Shreve Memorial Library site, the line stretched out the door with the parking lot full, and election workers placed a chair at the end of the line at 6 p.m. to mark the cutoff. Anyone who arrived after that was told to return the next day.
In Louisiana, in-person early voting runs through 6 p.m. Tuesday at designated registrar of voters locations. Requests for absentee ballots must arrive by 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Voters need photo identification. A Louisiana driver’s license, special ID card, the LA Wallet digital license, a military ID or another government photo ID with a signature all count. Anyone who lacks a photo ID is not turned away; that voter fills out and signs an affidavit instead.
Election officials also advise voters to check where they are assigned on Election Day, since early voting sites are often different from regular polling places. On Nov. 3, anyone already standing in line when the polls close will still be allowed to vote. Registration status, polling hours and sample ballots can be checked through the Louisiana Secretary of State’s online portal.
