Born in 1943 in Shreveport, Gerelyn graduated from Fair Park High School and later served her community for many years through her career at the United States Postal Service. Her commitment to service did not end there; in her later years, she embraced technology and pursued a second career as a webmaster for a travel website. Her passion for learning and the evolving digital landscape allowed her to excel in this new role.
Throughout her life, Gerelyn was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, reflecting her strong values and dedication to faith. Gerelyn’s love for travel also characterized her life, as she enjoyed exploring new places and creating lasting memories.
Gerelyn is survived by three of her four daughters: Karen Moss, Kathy Henley, and Kayla Reaves. She was preceded in death by her daughter Kimberly Kinney, who passed away in 2019. In addition to her daughters, she leaves behind a legacy of love through her eight grandchildren: Chris Pickerel, Danny Pickerel, Chadd Pickerel, Chett Pickerel, Rachel Morrison, Clare Moss, Austin Henley, and Dylan Reaves. Gerelyn cherished her family bonds, which included beloved cousins: Gene David Bozeman, Barron Bozeman, Alan Atwood, and Sue Atwood.
Beyond her immediate family, Gerelyn’s influence extended to a host of friends, many great-grandchildren, and even one great-great-grandchild. Her life was filled with joy, and she was continually surrounded by loved ones who brought her great happiness.
In lieu of flowers, Gerelyn’s family requests that donations be made to The University of North Texas Health Science Center or a reputable dementia research organization. This gesture reflects the family’s commitment to supporting research and awareness for dementia in honor of Gerelyn’s later years.
Gerelyn Reaves is remembered not only for her roles as a mother, grandmother, and community member but also for her indomitable spirit and zest for life.
