Shreveport, Louisiana – Barrett Hudson, a cherished family man and dedicated community member, has passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love and service. Born on February 11, 1930, in Plain Dealing, Louisiana, Hudson was a prominent figure known for his work in banking, as well as his involvement in various community and church organizations.
Barrett Hudson’s early life was marked by challenges, including the loss of his father shortly after his birth. Raised by a widowed mother alongside two older brothers in a dog trot house built by their father, Hudson developed a strong sense of family and community. After relocating to Shreveport during his teenage years, he graduated from Fair Park High School and served in the Army’s Intelligence Corps during the Korean War. Following his military service, Hudson devoted his time to caring for his ill mother until her passing.
In 1955, Barrett married Lois Lucas, who lived nearby. Their 65-year marriage was filled with love and the joy of raising their three daughters and one son. The family shared a passion for camping, often traveling each summer to Colorado in their Coleman pop-up trailer, where Barrett was known for his unique preparation of soggy fries for breakfast. As they grew older, Barrett and Lois embraced traveling on Alaskan cruises and enjoyed co-hosting trips to the Holy Land and Austria, enriching their life together.
Professionally, Barrett, often known as Calvin, began his career as a teller at First National Bank while attending night classes at Centenary College. Alongside his banking job, he also worked weekends at Weingarten’s and the Shreveport Gun Club. Over the years, he ascended to the role of Senior Vice President at Red River Valley Bank, which eventually merged with Chase, earning a reputation for exceptional customer service that left lasting impressions on clients.
Barrett was also deeply engaged in his community, devoting time to organizations such as the Shreveport Optimist Club, Bossier Lions Club, Queensborough Masonic Lodge, and Gideons. His contributions to local churches were significant; he was instrumental in founding Lakeshore Baptist Church and Western Hills Baptist Church, and he served as a deacon at multiple congregations, including Trinity Heights Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School to married adults. His dedication also led to the creation of a Prayer Garden through his Sunday School class at First Baptist Blanchard, which continues to serve as a walking trail today.
Known for his strong faith, sense of humor, and ever-present smile, Hudson had a unique love for sweet treats, especially Snickers and peanut clusters. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lois, his parents, brothers, and several son-in-laws. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, who continue to honor his memory.
The family expresses profound gratitude to Dr. P. V. Blanchard and the caregivers who supported Barrett during his long battle with dementia. A visitation and memorial service are scheduled for May 3, 2025, at Trinity Heights Baptist Church, where friends and family can pay their respects. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will also be recognized during the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Trinity Heights Baptist Church in Barrett’s memory.
