Funeral services for Ayodele “Ayo” Edith Anderson will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church, located at 1666 Alston Street, Shreveport, Louisiana. Ayo, who passed away on April 25, 2025, after a sudden illness, leaves behind a rich legacy of education, career accomplishments, and community involvement.
Prior to the funeral service, Ayo will lie in repose from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on May 3. An additional opportunity for the public to pay their respects is available on Friday, May 2, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A Family Hour will be held that same day from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, also at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church.
Ayo’s Life and Accomplishments
Born into a family dedicated to education and community service, Ayodele “Ayo” Edith Anderson made significant strides throughout her life. She was an early achiever, as a member of the inaugural kindergarten class at South Highlands Elementary Magnet School, and continued her education at Caddo Middle Magnet School and C.E. Byrd High School. Ayo earned her B.A. in Mass Communications, graduating Cum Laude from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge in 1994. She later advanced her studies, obtaining a master’s degree from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University in New York.
Ayo’s professional journey included a successful corporate career at Verizon, where she served as a Human Resources Manager in locations such as New York City and Lewisville, Texas. She also contributed to her community as the Area Health Education Center Program Office Project Coordinator at LSU Health Shreveport. In addition to her corporate work, Ayo was an entrepreneur, having founded Ayo’s Exquisite Excursions and Events, where she showcased her passion for creating memorable experiences.
Ayo was also deeply committed to community service through her involvement in various organizations, including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, The Links, Incorporated, and Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated. She showed unwavering support for her family, particularly as a devoted mother to her son, Ayden Akil Moss Anderson, ensuring a nurturing environment focused on his future.
Family and Legacy
Ayo was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Lee Anderson, and her grandparents, Marshall and Edith Webb, as well as Tarris and Veola Anderson. She is survived by her mother, Burnadine Moss Anderson; her son, Ayden Akil Moss Anderson; and her brothers, Dakarai Akil Anderson, Derrick Hall, and Calvin Jermaine Hall, Sr. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends also grieve her passing.
