Shreveport Woman Miraculously Escapes Death as Violent Storm Wrecks Home

"Storm Damaged Home, Tree Removal"

Resident Rescued from Home Wreckage Following a Violent Storm in Shreveport

A violent storm that recently swept across Shreveport, Louisiana, resulted in a close brush with death for one local woman. Severe rains and lightning were accompanied by high-speed winds that knocked down a massive tree onto her home.

Miraculous Escape from Death

The woman, who had been sound asleep moments before, might have been a casualty if not for an ironic twist of fate that propelled her out of bed. The woman’s daughter, Brittney Hughes, shared that her mother was awakened abruptly due to an unexpected alarm from her workplace security system.

Hughes recounted, “My mom wasn’t supposed to wake up until 8 a.m. She had her alarm set for 8 a.m.  She was going to come help me move… So, she got up to make coffee and at about 7:45 a.m., the tree hit the house. If she would have slept until 8, like her alarm, then she probably wouldn’t be here,”

Luckily, the lady escaped her room unscathed, moments before a tree crashed into her house and destroyed her bedroom.

Emergency Response to the Incident

The large tree was quickly removed from the house by a local company known as The Best Land Clearing LLC. Tommy Giles, a representative from the land clearing company, said it was possibly the largest tree they had removed this year. The company is associated with the Shreveport Volunteer Network and uses funds earned from their business to help the local community after such storms and natural disasters.

Giles, who has witnessed damage all around the city, said, “We’re able to go out and help people who are not able to help themselves after storms, elderly, veterans, or the city. Whenever there’s an overflow of trees in the roads, things like that.

Coping After the Storm

Hughes, who herself hails from California, was, by a stroke of luck, visiting Shreveport during the ordeal. She had arrived a week before the incident to sort out a property she was planning to rent out, which serendipitously provides her displaced parents a temporary accommodation while their home undergoes repair.

“The timing was a blessing,” Hughes said, grateful for the providential nature of the situation that saved her mother’s life and provided immediate housing.

Turmoil Across the City

The storm’s aftermath continues to cause havoc in various parts of the city where the clearing up of trees and other debris has become a necessity. The Shreveport Volunteer Network is dedicatedly working to assist residents in these tasks, particularly those who are physically incapable or lack the resources to do so independently.

Such incidents serve as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of mother nature and the dire need for effective disaster management in vulnerable parts of our community.
