Dr. Robert F. Aarstad, affectionately known as Bob, passed away on May 12, 2025, at the age of 79. He died at The Cottages Assisted Living Memory Care at The Glen in Shreveport, LA. A private memorial service will be held in his honor.
Born on December 6, 1945, in Lincoln, Nebraska, Dr. Aarstad spent his childhood in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Watertown, South Dakota, where he graduated from high school. He earned a B.S. degree from St. Olaf College and later attended South Dakota State University before transferring to the prestigious Johns Hopkins University for his Doctor of Medicine degree. Following his education, he completed a residency at UCLA in Los Angeles.
After focusing his career on surgery, Dr. Aarstad initiated a private practice in Oxnard, California, where he met his future wife, Kathrine Lynn (Huffman) Aarstad, known as Kitty. Eventually, he moved to the Bossier City and Shreveport areas to obtain a Fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He was double board certified in Plastics and Head and Neck Surgery and dedicated over 20 years of his career to practicing at the Louisiana State University Medical Center of Shreveport and the Overton Brooks Veterans’ Administration Medical Center.

Dr. Aarstad’s career began in his youth when he served in various roles, including a position with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, conducting search and rescues. He was also a Captain in the Naval Reserves and served as a police officer for the Shreveport Police Department. Personal Life and Hobbies
Beyond his medical career, Dr. Aarstad was a licensed pilot and enjoyed scuba diving in the Pacific Ocean from his sailboat. He had a passion for riding his Harley motorcycle and was an active participant at shooting ranges. These hobbies highlighted his adventurous spirit and zest for life.

Survived by Family
Dr. Aarstad was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Lorraine Aarstad, and his wife, Kitty. He is survived by his daughters, Jordan Mallory of Shreveport and Lafayette, and Samantha, along with her husband, Kyle, and their children: Iris Ruth Martin (4 years), Charles Fredrick Martin (2 years), and newborn Henry Ogden Martin. He is also survived by his brothers, James Aarstad (Barb) of Watertown, SD; Thomas Aarstad (Sue) of Sioux Falls, SD; and Donald Aarstad of Watertown, SD, along with multiple nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

In appreciation for the compassionate care he received, the family expressed gratitude to the staff at The Cottages Assisted Living Memory Care, particularly Julia Webb and Katie Baxter, as well as the Lifepath Hospice Care staff, Tara and Allison.
