Shreveport Issues Boil Advisory Due to Water Main Repairs

Water main repair construction site in Shreveport

News Summary

Shreveport has announced a voluntary boil advisory following repairs to the water main that have led to a loss of water pressure in several parts of the city. Residents in specific locations have been urged to boil tap water before consumption. The advisory was prompted by damage to a backflow preventer, raising safety concerns about potential contaminants in the water supply. The advisory will remain in effect until water samples are tested and deemed safe, with residents being advised to stay informed through official notices.

Shreveport is currently under a voluntary boil advisory due to ongoing repairs on the water main, which have caused a loss of water pressure in several areas of the city. The advisory has been issued by Shreveport’s Department of Water and Sewage and will remain in effect until officials confirm that the water is safe for consumption.

The affected locations include:

  • 1000 block of West Bert Kouns Industrial Loop
  • 9400 & 9300 blocks of Blom Boulevard
  • 9200 block of Hillside Avenue
  • 1000 block of Ridgewood
  • 1000 block of Belhaven
  • 9400 & 9300 blocks of Baird Road
  • 2100 block of Francais
  • 2100 block of Waymon Drive
  • 2100 block of Urban Dale
  • 2100 block of Cynthia Lane

Additionally, the advisory also includes customers along E. Flournoy Lucas Road from Wallace Lake Road to Twelve Oaks Subdivision, which encompasses the sub-divisions of Lucien Field Estates, Acadiana Place, and Ellerbe Estates.

The advisory was prompted by a vehicle damaging a backflow preventer, which led to a loss of pressure in the water system. This drop in pressure can raise the risk of contaminants entering the water supply, prompting the precautionary advisory.

Residents within the advisory areas are advised to boil tap water before use to ensure its safety for drinking and cooking. The recommended boiling method is to bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute in a clean container.

The boil advisory will be lifted once water samples have been analyzed and confirmed to be free of coliform bacteria. The Department of Water and Sewerage will issue a follow-up notice to inform residents when the advisory has been officially lifted, which requires confirmation from the Louisiana Department of Health.

For additional information or concerns, residents are encouraged to reach out to the Shreveport Department of Water and Sewerage at 318-673-7600.

It is important for residents to stay informed about any updates regarding the status of the water supply and to adhere to the boil advisory instructions until the water is deemed safe for use once again.
