News Summary

Shreveport witnessed a shocking rise in violence this weekend, with two homicides and an officer-involved shooting shaking the community. In one incident, a 40-year-old woman was shot and killed in her home, while a critical injury was reported for a man found nearby. Another fatal shooting involved a domestic dispute leading to police intervention. Local authorities emphasize the urgent need for effective measures to combat escalating gun violence in the area.

Shreveport experienced a surge of violence over the weekend, with two homicides and an officer-involved shooting rattling the community. The events unfolded on the morning of Saturday, July 5, 2025, as police responded to a shooting incident at approximately 7 a.m. on N. Windermere Drive.

In the first incident, 40-year-old Corinthian Shepard was shot and killed in her home. Law enforcement officials pronounced Shepard deceased at the scene at 7:09 a.m., having suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body. The police identified a man who was found outside the residence with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to Oschner LSU Health Shreveport in critical condition; however, his condition has since stabilized. Following a swift investigation, police arrested Richard Williams, who is charged with second-degree homicide in connection to Shepard’s death. This incident marks the 19th homicide in Shreveport for the year 2025.

Earlier in the same month, on May 27, a separate tragic incident occurred involving a 15-year-old named Kevin R. Ester. Ester was shot during a dispute among neighbors on the 3100 block of Parkhurst Street. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on the morning of May 28 after being transported to Ochsner LSU Health. A 14-year-old suspect has been arrested and is charged with manslaughter, alleged to have delivered the fatal shot during the heated argument that involved multiple individuals discharging firearms. Police Chief Wayne Smith expressed condolences to Ester’s family and emphasized the profound implications of such violence on the community.

Later that same evening, another fatal incident unfolded, leading to an officer-involved shooting on Yancy Street. The circumstances surrounding this shooting began during a family argument that originated from a Mother’s Day celebration. Reportedly, 36-year-old Randall Jack was shot multiple times by his brother-in-law amid this domestic dispute. When police arrived at the scene, they attempted to negotiate with the armed suspect. However, the situation escalated, resulting in officers fatally shooting the brother-in-law. The identity of the deceased suspect has not been disclosed by the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office.

The officer-involved shooting is currently under investigation by the Louisiana State Police and marks the first fatal incident of this nature for the Shreveport Police Department in 2025. In light of these recent violent occurrences, authorities are emphasizing the need for comprehensive solutions to address the rising gun violence within the community.

The total number of homicides in Shreveport this year is concerning, prompting city officials and police to call for increased community engagement and preventive measures. Local leaders are assessing the situation as they seek to implement strategies aimed at reducing gun violence and ensuring public safety.

Community members are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as law enforcement continues to investigate these incidents. The Shreveport community faces significant challenges concerning violence and safety, and these recent events have underscored the urgent need for collaborative efforts to foster a safer environment for all residents.
