Shreveport, Louisiana – A vehicle crash on July 21 resulted in the death of a 55-year-old woman from Bossier City and left another person seriously injured. The incident occurred around 5:48 p.m. at the intersection of Elizabeth Avenue and Margaret Place.
According to the Shreveport Police Department (SPD), officers were dispatched to the scene following reports of the crash. Upon arrival, they found a single-vehicle accident where the driver, identified as Christy Harris, was unconscious inside the vehicle. The Shreveport Fire Department promptly responded and transported Harris, along with a passenger, to Ochsner LSU Health.
Both Harris and the passenger sustained life-threatening injuries from the collision. The preliminary investigation suggests that Harris suffered a medical episode while driving, which caused her to lose control of the vehicle. The car veered off the roadway, struck several road signs, and ultimately collided with a large tree.
Tragically, Harris was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash, while the passenger was properly restrained. Harris was pronounced dead at the hospital at 6:14 p.m. Shortly after the incident, the passenger was reported to be in serious but stable condition and remains hospitalized.
The SPD’s Crash Investigation Unit is currently leading a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. Authorities have emphasized the importance of wearing seatbelts and are urging the community to keep the affected family in their thoughts during this difficult time.
This tragic event marks another reminder of the critical role seatbelt use plays in enhancing safety on the road. The local police department continues to advocate for safe driving practices to prevent such incidents in the future.
Harris had been a resident of Bossier City, a neighboring city to Shreveport, where she is remembered by the community. As the investigation unfolds, more details will likely emerge about the crash and the implications it carries for local road safety.
