Shreveport Students Gain Valuable Skills in Innovative Floor Cleaning Workshop

Shreveport Students Get Hands-On Experience in Floor Cleaning!

In a progressive move to equip local students with practical skills and professional know-how, Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College (NLTCC) recently partnered with Goodwill Industries and ABM to host an exciting two-day industrial floor cleaning class at their Shreveport campus. This initiative not only provided participants with essential technical training but also focused on nurturing valuable life skills that many alumni will take with them into the workforce.

A Dynamic Two-Day Training Experience

Held over two days, the class kicked off with hands-on, practical techniques essential for floor care. The first day was all about getting down to business with activities like floor stripping, polishing, and buffing. Wearing gloves and excited expressions, students learned the ropes, gaining confidence in their abilities to effectively clean industrial floors.

As if that wasn’t enough, on the second day of the workshop, participants dived into the world of soft skills. Together, they explored the intriguing “3 R’s”: reliable, relatable, and relevant. These discussions aimed at shaping their professional persona, helping them connect better with potential employers and colleagues in the future.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

The class was not just about floors, it was about futures! Students had the unique opportunity to operate buffing machines and, more importantly, they learned about the variety of educational paths available at NLTCC. While walking through these options, they also had enlightening conversations with staff from Student Services and Financial Aid, learning the significant role of earning a HiSET (High School Equivalency Test) in advancing their education and careers.

“I’m in the Right Place This Time”

One enthusiastic student summed up the experience perfectly: “I’m in the right place this time.” It was clear that the program not only resonated with the attendees but also inspired them to pursue further education and opportunities. And there’s no denying that such a program wouldn’t have been possible without the relentless dedication of an incredible instructor.

A Special Thanks Goes Out!

A big shoutout is in order for Kevin Bounds from Diversity Cleaning Supplier, who not only taught the course but also played a pivotal role in organizing it. This collaboration flourished thanks to contributions from Albert Dyer, a Goodwill Career Coach, Chris Clark from ABM, and Goodwill representatives Patrice Bookman and Janola Gilliam. Their hard work and commitment to empowering students made this training possible, creating pathways to new opportunities for all involved.
