Shreveport Experiences Two Separate Shootings Leaving One Woman Dead and One Man Critically Injured
Shreveport police are investigating two separate shooting incidents that occurred over the weekend, resulting in the death of a woman and critical injuries to a man. The first incident took place early Saturday morning, July 5, where 40-year-old Corinthian Shepard was shot and killed in her home on N. Windermere Drive. A man, who is currently in stable condition, was found injured outside the same residence.
Authorities received reports of the shooting around 7 a.m. Upon arrival, police discovered Shepard with a gunshot wound to her upper body. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:09 a.m. The male victim, found outside the home, sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to Oschner LSU Health Shreveport to receive treatment for life-threatening injuries.
Shreveport Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified and arrested Richard Williams in connection with Shepard’s murder. He has since been charged with second-degree homicide, marking Shepard’s tragic death as the 19th homicide in Shreveport this year.
In a related but separate incident on Sunday, July 6, another woman was found dead. Sixty-five-year-old Mary Zachary was discovered unresponsive around 9:22 a.m. by a family member in the garage of her home located in the 10000 block of Stonehaven Drive. The circumstances surrounding her death are currently under investigation, and the cause has yet to be determined.
The two incidents have reignited discussions around gun violence and safety within the Shreveport community. Local authorities are urging residents to report any suspicious activities and to prioritize public safety. The local police department continues to gather details and evidence in both cases as they work diligently to provide answers to the families impacted by these tragic events.
The city of Shreveport, like many urban areas, confronts challenges related to violent crime. Law enforcement officials are working proactively to combat rising crime rates. With current efforts underway, further updates about the investigations and any additional measures taken by law enforcement communities are anticipated in the coming days.
The Shreveport community, while mourning the loss of life and the serious injuries suffered by another, is reminded of the importance of unity and vigilance in order to foster a safer environment for all residents. Community outreach initiatives may soon follow as local leaders seek to address concerns and support those affected by violence.
As investigations continue into both shooting incidents, the Shreveport police encourage anyone with information to come forward. The community’s participation in reporting crime and suspicions can aid law enforcement in their efforts to restore a sense of security within neighborhoods.
