In an initiative aimed at supporting the local food network and fostering organic, sustainable farming practices, Shreveport’s Current Farms has begun collaborating with local markets, online platforms, and other businesses to offer vegetable shares to the local community.
Bringing the Farm to the Table
Current Farms’ innovative subscription service offers a selection of seasonal favorites and staple crops such as salad mixes, microgreens, leafy greens, and root vegetables. This service not only provides customers with fresh, organically produced goods but also serves to fuel investment in the local food network.
A United Front against Unsustainable Agriculture
The model of the service allows customers to add on, or swap goods from four other north Louisiana farms. The additional options include locally sourced beef, chicken, pork, eggs, honey, sweet potatoes, oyster mushrooms, and seasonal fruit.
Since its inception in 2017, Current Farms has been an advocate for organic, sustainable agricultural practices. Despite operating on less than three acres, the farm has flourished and established itself as a model for sustainable agriculture in the area.
