Shreveport, Louisiana – A series of gun violence incidents in Shreveport have raised concerns about safety in the community and the need for active participation in crime prevention. On June 7, a man was arrested following an attempted carjacking and shooting that occurred around 1:45 a.m. in the 4600 block of Lakeshore Drive, near the Nantucket Harbor Apartments. According to police reports, a caller alerted authorities about a robbery attempt, stating that gunfire had been exchanged, and he was bleeding from his left arm.

The victim of the attempted carjacking was armed and returned fire during the conflict. Tidarius Riddix, who sustained a gunshot wound, was brought to a local hospital shortly after the incident. He had reportedly been dropped off at the apartments earlier that morning. Following the investigation, Shreveport Police arrested Riddix on June 24 and charged him with carjacking.

In a separate shooting incident on June 24, a woman was shot in the chest around 6:30 a.m. in the 500 block of Merrick Street in the Highland neighborhood. Initially, authorities questioned two people present at the scene, but later investigations determined that the shooting was a suicide.

Just two days later, on June 26, another victim was shot in the leg in the 1400 block of Clover Street shortly after 1 a.m. The police continue to investigate these occurrences, emphasizing the need for community cooperation.

Earlier in the month, on June 22, reports of gunfire were received after 9 p.m. in the 5800 block of South Lakeshore Drive, near Ford Park. Officers arrived to find a 19-year-old unconscious man with multiple gunshot wounds; he was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Initially, police indicated the teen’s chances of survival were “grim,” but subsequently retracted a statement suggesting he had died, as lifesaving measures were still being implemented.

Evidence from the Ford Park shooting revealed that over 100 individuals were present at the site during the gunfight. Despite the large crowd, no credible witnesses have stepped forward to share vital information regarding the incidents. Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith has appealed to the community for assistance in helping to identify those responsible for what he called a “cowardly and reckless act of violence.”

At the scene of the Ford Park shooting, police discovered at least 70 shell casings from three different firearms. Authorities have indicated that video footage of the incident may have been recorded by individuals in the park, and they are urging anyone with relevant video evidence to come forward. In an effort to encourage tips from the public, a reward of $10,000 has been announced for information related to the Ford Park shooting case.

The rise in gun violence demonstrates the growing need for community engagement in combating crime and enhancing safety. Shreveport authorities continue to investigate these incidents thoroughly while highlighting the importance of collective responsibility in addressing the underlying issues contributing to the violence.

Community members are encouraged to keep vigilant and report any suspicious activities as local law enforcement works to restore safety and peace to Shreveport. The city’s residents are reminded that cooperation with police can make a significant difference in preventing future violent incidents.
