News Summary

Shreveport has seen a worrying rise in gun violence, highlighted by multiple shooting incidents reported in late June. Police are actively pursuing suspects and seeking community assistance to combat this trend. Notable incidents include an attempted carjacking that led to an arrest, a shooting deemed a suicide, and a teenager shot during a gunfight at a crowded park. Authorities emphasize the need for public cooperation as they investigate these violent occurrences.

Shreveport has recently experienced a notable increase in gun violence, with multiple shooting incidents reported in late June. Police are responding to these alarming trends by pursuing arrests and gathering information from the community.

In a significant incident on June 7, Tidarius Riddix was arrested following an attempted carjacking that escalated into a shooting. The event occurred at approximately 1:45 a.m. in the 4600 block of Lakeshore Drive, near the Nantucket Harbor Apartments. According to reports, a 911 caller reported an exchange of gunfire between Riddix and another man who tried to rob him. The caller confirmed he sustained a gunshot wound to his left arm during the confrontation.

Shortly after the incident, Riddix arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound. Investigators determined that Riddix had attempted to carjack the armed victim. During the altercation, the victim shot back in self-defense. As a result, Riddix was arrested on June 24 and charged with carjacking.

In a separate case on June 24, a woman was shot in the chest in the 500 block of Merrick Street at 6:30 a.m. Multiple police units responded promptly, and two persons were questioned at the site. Following an investigation by law enforcement, the incident was officially ruled a suicide by Cpl. Chris Bordelon.

The violence in Shreveport has not been limited to isolated incidents. On June 22, police rushed to the 5800 block of South Lakeshore Drive around 9 p.m. after receiving reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, they discovered a 19-year-old man lying unconscious with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Initially, police reported that the teenager had succumbed to his injuries but later retracted this statement, noting that the family had not consented to the cessation of lifesaving measures.

Investigators believe the teenager was involved in a gunfight with various individuals, and despite more than 100 people being present at Ford Park during the shooting, no credible witnesses have stepped forward. Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith made an appeal to the local community to assist law enforcement in gathering information to protect the city. Police discovered at least 70 shell casings from three different firearms at the scene, raising concerns about the severity of this incident. Authorities are also requesting anyone who might have recorded the incident to share the footage, with a reward of $10,000 being offered for actionable information related to the case.

Furthermore, on June 23 at around midnight, another shooting incident occurred involving a 19-year-old woman in the 600 block of Greenwood Road. Reports indicate the victim had intended to meet with a group to engage in a confrontation with another set of women. While leaving the area, the vehicle she was in came under gunfire from another group, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries for her.

As police continue to address the growing concern regarding gun violence in Shreveport, they emphasize the importance of community cooperation in solving these cases and helping prevent future incidents.
