Shreveport Fire Department Battles Blaze at Abandoned Apartments
In the early hours of Wednesday, December 18, 2024, the tranquil streets of Shreveport were suddenly filled with the frantic wail of sirens as the Fire Department sprang into action. At precisely 2:47 AM, a passerby noticed a blaze erupting from what used to be the Linwood Homes Apartments, located in the 7200 block of Bernstein Avenue. Quick thinking and prompt action led to the calling of emergency services, which undoubtedly made all the difference in handling this situation.
Firefighters Spring into Action
Rescue 9, the first on the scene, arrived a mere four minutes later to find heavy smoke billowing from the roof of the two-story building. The sight of bright flames licking the night sky was nothing short of alarming. The situation was dire, requiring the collective efforts of thirty-two firefighters and twelve units working together to bring the fire under control. It took an hour, and by 3:47 AM, the situation was stabilized thanks to their determination and teamwork.
Challenges Faced by Firefighters
This wouldn’t be a straightforward fight, however. To tackle the flames effectively, firefighters had to deploy two aerial ladder trucks while dealing with long hose lays extending in two different directions to reach the nearest hydrants. Imagine the chaos – there were no water utilities within the complex, making their job even tougher! Despite the challenges, their training and resolve shined through. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported for both the brave firefighters and the public. That’s even more reassuring news considering the intensity of the fire!
