Shreveport – A domestic violence incident in Shreveport has left one mother dead and her son charged with shooting her estranged husband in what authorities deem a case of self-defense. The shooting occurred on the evening of July 11 at an apartment complex located in the 6700 block of Rasberry Lane, prompting a significant response from law enforcement.

Shreveport Police Department (SPD) received reports of a shooting just after 7:45 p.m. and dispatched at least eight units to the scene. While initial reports emerged about the case, there remain no details concerning any injuries related to the shooting on Rasberry Lane.

In a separate but related incident, 40-year-old Corinthian Shepard was fatally shot inside her home near the intersection of Windermere Drive and Beaufort Way. Her estranged husband, Richard Williams, was implicated in the shooting, and during the confrontation, Shepard’s 19-year-old son intervened by shooting Williams to protect his mother.

Williams survived the encounter and now faces charges of second-degree murder, whereas Shepard’s son has been cleared of any charges due to the nature of his actions being categorized as self-defense by law enforcement.

Corporal Chris Bordelon, a spokesperson for the Shreveport Police, addressed rumors circulating about additional individuals being present in the home during the incident and confirmed these claims were false. It is important to note that Shepard and Williams were officially separated at the time of the shooting.

The Shreveport Police Department reports that domestic violence is the most prevalent crime they respond to in the area. With ongoing investigations, SPD plans to release Williams’ full criminal history in due course.

Meanwhile, Shepard’s family has begun making funeral arrangements and has set up a GoFundMe campaign to assist with covering the costs associated with her funeral.

This tragic incident comes just days after another shooting event in Shreveport where a 6-year-old child accidentally shot himself in the parking lot of a local Raising Cane’s restaurant. This accident occurred just before 8:30 p.m. on July 3, leaving the child in critical condition after discharging a concealed firearm while unsupervised.

According to the child’s father, he was outside of the vehicle speaking with someone when the young child moved to the front seat and accidentally triggered the firearm. To date, no charges have been filed in connection with this unintended shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The series of incidents highlights ongoing concerns surrounding firearm safety and domestic violence in the community. As Shreveport grapples with these recent events, the need for awareness and preventive measures becomes increasingly vital.
