Shreveport Acting Studio Closes After Eight Successful Years
SHREVEPORT, LA – A Shreveport-based acting studio renowned for nurturing local talent has announced that it is closing its doors after eight years of operation. Northwood Acting Studio, an integral part of the Shreveport creative arts community, offered budding actors opportunities to hone their skills and launches numerous careers.
New Leadership, New Directions
The studio’s closure comes on the heels of a leadership change at Millennium Studios, where Northwood Acting Studio was housed. The studio is now under a long-term lease with Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s G-Unit Studios. The last of the acting classes were held earlier this week, marking the end of a creative era for Shreveport.
Studio owner Garrett Kruithof expressed his pride in the work that Northwood had carried out in the Shreveport community. In addition to acting classes, the studio also offered taping services for auditioning actors, a much-in-demand facility in the post-COVID acting industry.
A Legacy of Talent
“I take a lot of pride in the fact that I’ve launched a lot of careers, and a lot of actors have earned their SAG cards right out of the studio,” Kruithof said. “My last official classes were actually this week, and I taught my last adult class in this space last night.”
Kruithof’s sentiments extended to the younger students too, with heartfelt mention of the ‘young actress class’ taught by instructor Dodie Brown. The final gathering for students and former students, a testament to the studio’s sense of community, is scheduled for next week.
Looking Forward
While the closure marks the end of a critical creative hub in Shreveport, the local arts community remains hopeful. Kruithof’s commitment to developing local talent and the successful careers launched from Northwood Acting Studio have set an admirable standard.
With the advent of G-Unit Studios and the continuation of other creative endeavors in the area, Shreveport’s actors, both established and aspiring, can look forward to new opportunities and continued growth in the industry.
