News Summary

Louisiana State University Shreveport appoints Andy Kaplan as head coach for women’s soccer, starting June 1, 2025, after a successful career at Reinhardt University.

Shreveport, Louisiana – Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) has officially announced the hiring of Andy Kaplan as the new head coach of the women’s soccer program, with his role set to commence on June 1, 2025. Kaplan arrives at LSUS following a highly successful 24-season tenure at Reinhardt University, making him one of the most recognized figures in the NAIA coaching community.

Kaplan’s extensive experience includes not only establishing himself as the longest-tenured coach in the history of Reinhardt’s women’s soccer program but also leading his teams to significant competitive success. During his time, he secured eight Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) championships and made eight national tournament appearances, with the pinnacle achievement being a quarterfinal finish in 2016. His coaching acumen earned him the accolade of conference coach of the year four times. Additionally, Kaplan’s teams consistently achieved academic excellence, maintaining a GPA above 3.4 each year.

LSUS Athletic Director Lucas Morgan expressed enthusiasm over Kaplan’s appointment, highlighting his commitment to enhancing the women’s soccer program and cultivating a positive environment for student-athletes. Morgan believes Kaplan’s energy and leadership style will resonate well with the players and contribute to the program’s growth.

Kaplan himself has conveyed a sense of honor and excitement at joining LSUS, emphasizing the university’s distinctive atmosphere. He aims to form strong relationships with his players while instilling a winner’s culture that emphasizes development both on and off the field.

The LSUS women’s soccer team is coming off a successful 2024 season, finishing with a 15-5-1 record. They captured the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) regular-season title after posting an impressive 12-1-0 record in conference play. However, the team faced a setback in the NAIA National Tournament, where they were eliminated in the opening round by the University of Northwestern Ohio with a score of 2-1.

Prior to his collegiate coaching career, Kaplan built a reputation as an accomplished high school coach and educator in Marietta, Georgia. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Macalester College, where he was a four-year starter on the men’s soccer team, as well as a master’s degree from Boston University.

As Kaplan prepares to assume his new role at LSUS, the anticipation surrounding his impact on the program continues to build. With a strong foundation laid by the previous season, he is expected to bring his winning mentality and experience to drive the team towards future successes.
