Caddo Sheriff’s Deputy and Four Others Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash

Shreveport, LA –

A Caddo Parish sheriff’s deputy and four other individuals sustained minor injuries on Wednesday afternoon in a multi-vehicle crash in a Shreveport intersection, authorities reported.

Details of the Incident

Sheriff Jay Long conveyed that Deputy Daniel Clayton was waiting at a red traffic light on the 6900 block of West 70th Street in Shreveport when his patrol vehicle was rear-ended by a dump-truck driver who failed to decelerate. The impact pushed Clayton’s vehicle into a Kia Forte, which was subsequently pushed into a Mericle’s tow truck at the intersection.

All the victims were immediately transported to nearby hospitals for medical assessment and treatment of their minor injuries. Clayton was taken to Willis Knighton-North, while the three occupants of the Kia Forte were taken to Willis Knighton-South. The dump truck driver was treated at Willis-Knighton Bossier.

Pending Investigation

The circumstances leading to the crash are under investigation. Authorities did not immediately release further details regarding the condition of all individuals involved or provide updates on their recovery. It is also unclear if any charges will be filed against the dump truck driver.

Word from the Sheriff’s Office

The Caddo Sheriff’s office urged all motorists to practice safe driving habits and to always be conscious of their surroundings, particularly in busy intersections. “This incident serves as a reminder for everyone to take a moment and ensure they are not following other vehicles too closely and to always be prepared for sudden stops, particularly in populated areas,” the department said in a released statement.

Community Support

Following the crash, support has surged from the local community, with well-wishers posting on social media hoping for a quick recovery for all involved. The condition of Deputy Daniel Clayton especially triggered a wave of concern from local residents, underlining his popularity among the local community and his commitment to his role.
