Shreveport, Louisiana – Dr. Laurie Salvail has been appointed as the new principal of Loyola College Prep, effective this summer. The announcement was made on Wednesday following the decision of former principal John H. LeBlanc to step down earlier this year. The appointment comes after a nationwide search led by the Board of Directors and the Diocese of Shreveport for a successor.
The decision to appoint Dr. Salvail was finalized by Bishop Francis Malone, Sister Carol Shively, and Board President Leland Horton, with the recommendation supported by the Loyola College Prep Board of Directors and the Principal Search Committee. Dr. Salvail succeeds LeBlanc, who had served as principal prior to his resignation.
Bringing over 15 years of educational experience, Dr. Salvail has held various roles within the field, including classroom teacher, curriculum director, and Executive Director of CYBER.ORG, a national non-profit organization dedicated to cybersecurity and STEM education. Her extensive background includes teaching students from kindergarten to fifth grade and designing curricula aligned with educational standards. Additionally, she has previously worked at St. Joseph Catholic School, which shares ties as a sister school to Loyola College Prep.
Bishop Malone welcomed Dr. Salvail to her new role, highlighting her commitment to Catholic values and her understanding of the importance of both moral and academic formation for students. Dr. Salvail stated her honor in being selected to lead the school and articulated her commitment to fostering an environment rooted in humility, integrity, and a focus on spiritual and moral development consistent with Catholic teachings. She views education as a ministry and intends to mirror the teachings of Christ in her administrative decisions.
Dr. Salvail holds a Ph.D. and an Ed.S. in Curriculum and Instruction, alongside a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. Her leadership philosophy is notably influenced by her Catholic faith and the foundational values imparted by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart during her education at Vandebilt Catholic High School. In addition to her teaching experience, she has significantly contributed to national professional development initiatives, mentoring educators across various career stages.
According to Sister Shively, Dr. Salvail’s dedication to Catholic education and her broad experience in educational roles made her a fitting choice for the principal position. Board President Horton extended appreciation to all who participated in the search process, expressing confidence in Dr. Salvail’s capability to uphold the legacy of Loyola College Prep.
Dr. Salvail is set to assume her responsibilities this summer in preparation for the upcoming 2025–2026 academic year. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to join the Loyola community and conveyed her enthusiasm about continuing the school’s rich tradition, particularly as it celebrates its 125-year history. Dr. Salvail concluded with an encouragement to the community, rallying support with the phrase, “Go Flyers!”
