Leavy Glen Nugent was born on May 13, 1938, in Shreveport, LA, to Litton and Lucille Owens Nugent. He was the oldest of eleven children. Leavy graduated from Cloutierville High School and pursued further education at Northwestern State College. Growing up on a farm in Lena, LA, he developed a lifelong love for horses and agriculture, which greatly influenced his life choices.

Known for his generosity, Leavy enthusiastically supported family, friends, and neighbors, contributing to numerous fundraisers and community events developed throughout his life. In his youth, Leavy participated in rodeos, and he continued to enjoy team roping well into his seventies while supporting young riders through his volunteer work with the Louisiana High School Rodeo Association.

In addition to his community service, Leavy served on the Bossier Parish Mounted Patrol and held a position on the North Bossier Parish Levee Board. His dedication to his church was evident as a dedicated member of the Plain Dealing United Methodist Church. Leavy actively managed the Akin Farm and his properties, continuing to farm until his eighties, showcasing his commitment to agriculture.

Leavy is survived by his wife of 64 years, Judith Meeker Nugent; two daughters, Lisa Smith and her husband Jerry of Eagle, CO, and Kelly Key and her husband Jeff of Colleyville, TX; and a son, Scott Nugent and his wife Audley of Natchez, MS. He leaves behind four grandchildren: Brianne Nugent, Rudy Nugent, Kaleigh Monheim and her husband Jake, and Kyle Key.

Leavy also is survived by brothers Steve Nugent and his wife Mary, Lansing Nugent and his wife Laura, and Dana Nugent and his wife Kathy, as well as sisters Gail Barham and her husband Steve, Sharon Gordon, and Anola Parker and her husband Keith, alongside many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister JoAnna Smith, and brothers Litton Bryan Nugent, Jerry Nugent, and Bill Nugent.

The family expresses deep gratitude for the care provided by Elizabeth “Pop” Daniels, the staff at The Blake, and the team at Cypress Point during Leavy’s later years. Pallbearers for the Plain Dealing service will be David Anderson, Jason Brown, Reece Horton, Todd Long, Jason Vaughn, and Steven White, while honorary pallbearers include Dillon Bruce and Eddie Molina. For the Lena graveside service, pallbearers will be Cole Lee, Kaden Lee, Robert Phillips, Brett Nugent, Craig Nugent, Jason Nugent, and Kevin Nugent, as well as Rylin Nugent.
