Free Tax Filing Sites Are Now Open for the Public in Shreveport

SHREVEPORT, La. – Now, more than ever, most households in northwest Louisiana are finding it challenging to balance their budgets. In support of these people, United Way of NWLA has teamed up with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to provide annual free tax preparation options. These programs aim to support financial stability and relieve the financial stress involved in filing taxes for thousands of families in the local community.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Sites

Several local Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites are now available to help the public with their tax preparation. To be eligible for the program, a taxpayer’s income must be below $64,000. Trained and IRS-certified volunteers do the tax preparation. They are tasked with handling simple returns with W-2 and 1099 forms, excluding itemized or business taxes. The United Way of Northwest Louisiana requires taxpayers to make appointments to participate in the VITA program.

Available VITA Sites

• Barksdale Air Force Base – This site gives active duty military priority, and it operates on an appointment-only basis.
• Caddo Community Action Agency –Both the David Raines and St. Vincent locations serve the community on an appointment-only basis.
• Creighton Hill VITA Site – This site also requires taxpayers to make an appointment before visiting.
• Highland Center Ministries VITA Site – The site is open to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10 AM to 6 PM.
• Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church VITA Site – Operated by Sadies Arms, Inc., this site operates on an appointment-only basis.
• New Horizons Independent Living Center – This site also requires taxpayers to schedule an appointment before visiting.
