Exciting Times in Shreveport: Community Events Bring People Together!
Hey there, Shreveport! The heart of our vibrant community was undoubtedly beating strong over the past few weeks, with an array of amazing events that brought folks together for a good cause and plenty of fun. Whether you’re passionate about golf, the arts, or supporting our health heroes, there was something for everyone. Let’s dive into the highlights!
Why the Hole Not? Chamber Open
On a sunny October 1st, the Greater Shreveport Chamber hosted its annual Why the Hole Not? Chamber Open at the beloved Querbes Golf Course. This event is always a hit among locals, and this year was no exception! Teams formed up to tackle some friendly competition while taking on a fun hole gimmick that put them head-to-head with golf pro Sarah Wongsinth.
In addition to Sarah, some familiar names participated in the day’s fun. Among the competitors were Jay Binderim, Joel Fair, and Kevin Odom, who made for an exciting team. Others included Bill Blocker, Jeremy Johnston, Keith McDonald, Cory Morris, and our very own Sarah Wongsinth, as well as some other remarkable talent hitting the links.
Team spirit was in the air, with teams like Sadie Becnel, Krystal Critton, and others teaming up to give it their all. Not to be outdone, Dr. Timothy Magner, Patrick Blunt, Matthew Brown, Todd Browning, and Trey Matlock joined the fray, showcasing the level of enthusiasm driving this event. And of course, it wouldn’t be an occasion without friends Tyler Comeaux and Eric Ricard hitting the course together!
An Evening for Healers
Just a couple of weeks earlier, on September 12, the LSU Health Sciences Foundation rolled out the red carpet for its annual fundraising gala, An Evening for Healers. The gala celebrated our community’s first responders and healthcare professionals, thanking them for their incredible work at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport, which proudly stands as North Louisiana’s only Level 1 Trauma Center.
This inspiring evening boasted a meaningful agenda aimed at raising funds for essential services, while honoring the hard work and dedication of those in the healthcare field. Guests enjoyed each other’s company as they mingled and showed their appreciation for those who save lives daily.
TASTE at Shreveport Convention Center
Fast forward to September 26, and Holy Angels hosted a deliciously fun event called TASTE at a new venue—the Shreveport Convention Center. Food lovers were in heaven as they sampled delights from over 40 eclectic food and drink vendors. From sweet to savory, there was truly something for every palate!
The excitement didn’t stop at tastings. Auction enthusiasts came out in droves to bid on over 150 unique items contributed by local artists, including jewelry and vacation packages. As always, local talent shined bright, showcasing the community’s creativity and generosity.
Krewe of Highland’s Royalty Coronation Party
Last but certainly not least, the Krewe of Highland hosted an epic Mad Max-themed 30th Royalty Coronation Party on October 5 at Uptown Bar & Lounge. Guests dressed to impress, dancing the night away with DJ Lomax spinning the tunes while indulging in sweet treats like Sugah Cotton Candy.
Feeling a bit adventurous? Attendees had the chance to take a swing at a car in a rage room-style setup! After the revelry, guests followed the party to Bear’s for an afterparty to keep the celebration going. What a remarkable way to wrap up a fun-filled evening!
Conclusion
From golf tournaments and fundraisers to themed parties and food tastings, Shreveport’s community spirit shone brightly through these unforgettable events. It’s heartwarming to see the people of our city come together to support one another and celebrate the vibrancy of our local culture. Here’s to many more wonderful gatherings ahead!
