Benton, Louisiana: A Fresh Splash of Change for Water and Sewer Services!
Exciting changes are on the horizon for Benton, Louisiana, and those changes are all about improving our essential water and sewer services! The Bossier Parish Police Jury made some big decisions earlier this week, and it’s all good news for residents who depend on safe and reliable water delivery.
Big Contracts to Boost Services
On Wednesday, the Bossier Parish Police Jury officially accepted bids from local contractors, and the results are in! Wicker Construction Inc. came in as the low bidder for the Winfield Road water distribution system enhancements with a winning bid of $3.2 million. That’s an investment that speaks volumes about the commitment to upgrading our facilities.
But that’s not all, folks! The jury also awarded $1.3 million to Interstate Specialty, LLC for improvements to the Winfield Road booster station, another critical element of our water infrastructure. And last but certainly not least, ASB Utility Construction, LLC from Shreveport snagged the $1.2 million contract for the Winfield Road Lift Station and sewer improvements.
District 2 Police Juror Glenn Benton expressed his enthusiasm about these improvements, stating, “If you don’t have water and sewer, you don’t have development.” It’s clear from his comments that Benton wants to make sure that everyone in Bossier Parish has access to these essential services!
Incorporating Smaller Water Systems
But the good news doesn’t stop there! Benton opened up the conversation about bringing some of the smaller, independent water systems into the fold. He mentioned that more than a few representatives from the St. Mary Community Water System Corporation in Plain Dealing and the Bodcau Water Works, Inc. have approached him with a desire to be part of the Consolidated Waterworks/Sewerage District No. 1.
What’s that mean? Well, smaller systems like these often struggle to secure the grants necessary for vital improvements, and by incorporating them into a bigger system, we can leverage the financial capabilities of the district. Benton stated, “Small systems like these can’t get the grants for improvement that we can, which goes to help maintain clean water, which is what we are striving to do for all our residents in the parish.” Talk about a win-win!
Community Needs Addressed
Another interesting request came from the River Point Racing and Equestrian Center Inc. They have been in talks with the state Department of Health of Shreveport regarding a water well. And guess what? The Police Jury is looking into incorporating that well into the Consolidated Waterworks/Sewerage District No. 1 as well!
In a unanimous vote, the jury decided to explore the possible incorporation of not just one, but three independent water systems! If that comes to fruition, imagine the positive impact on all of our local communities! Will everyone soon have better access to clean water? It’s looking promising!
What’s Next?
The journey is just beginning, but there’s a buzz in the air that suggests good things are on their way. With these construction contracts and unification efforts, Benton and the surrounding areas are gearing up for significant upgrades to our water and sewer infrastructure.
As residents, we can feel good knowing that our local government is taking the steps necessary to ensure sustainable and safe water delivery. Keep your ears tuned; we’ll be sure to keep you updated on any further developments!
In conclusion, let’s raise a glass of clean water to the proactive measures being taken in Benton! Here’s to better services, better health, and a better tomorrow!
