Bossier City Roads in for a Shake-Up: I-20 Traffic Changes Coming Soon!
Hey there, Bossier City residents! If you’re driving around town, you might want to stick around for some news that will affect your evening commute. The ongoing rehabilitation project on Interstate 20 is about to see some changes that you should definitely know about.
What’s Happening Starting Monday Night?
Starting this coming Monday night, December 16th, we can expect to see a new phase of the I-20 project kick off, which will result in some temporary traffic disruptions. Don’t worry; it’s just a part of the plan to give our roads a much-needed facelift. This phase, called Phase 3, involves a traffic swap for eastbound vehicles.
What this means for you is that the traffic will be shifted onto the remaining new travel lanes between Old Minden Road and Airline Drive. In order for this switch to happen safely, there will need to be a nighttime closure of I-20 for eastbound traffic.
Closure Details You Need to Know
So, what should you expect? The closure will span from around 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night and will continue for approximately six nights. During this time, you can expect contractors to be busy moving concrete barriers, directing folks onto those shiny new inside lanes, and painting temporary roadway striping.
Now here’s a little tip for your drive: if you’re heading eastbound on I-20, you can still exit at either Benton Road or Barksdale Boulevard interchanges. The on-ramp from Airline Drive will also remain open, so don’t fret too much about your route!
What’s Already Been Done?
If you’ve been noticing a bit of construction noise, you’re not imagining things! The contractors have already begun demolishing the old pavement on the outside lanes of I-20, and they’re not done yet. This demolition work will carry on over the next several months.
Come January, they’ll be diving into the exciting part – constructing the roadway base for those new outside lanes. Sounds pretty promising, right? For those of you wondering about the big picture, Phase 3 also includes not only the outside lanes from Hamilton Road to Industrial Drive but also the complete rebuilding of some key ramps. Yes, that means Benton Road, Barksdale Boulevard, and Airline Drive interchanges are also getting a much-needed upgrade!
Keeping You in the Loop
For all of you who love staying updated, there’s a dedicated webpage just for this project where you can find resources and see updates as work progresses. It’s a handy tool for anyone wanting to stay ahead of construction delays and changes. You can click here to access that page and keep tabs on what’s going on!
When Will Everything Be Done?
For those counting the days, the whole project is anticipated to wrap up by late 2025, but of course, that’s all dependent on the weather. So let’s keep our fingers crossed for some sunny days ahead!
As always, please remember to drive safely during these changes, folks. Cheers to better roads and smooth rides in Bossier City!
