Shreveport Man Found Guilty of Murdering Romantic Rival
SHREVEPORT, La. — A man from Shreveport has been found guilty of murdering a romantic rival in a shocking case that unfolded at an apartment complex on Pines Road. After a trial that lasted several days, a jury made up of nine women and three men concluded on August 7, 2024, that 26-year-old Zhane Quinn Persley was responsible for the death of Devacseya Doyle.
Details of the Incident
The incident dates back to October 24, 2020, when Persley confronted Doyle as he was leaving an apartment with Persley’s ex-girlfriend. According to the evidence presented during the trial, Persley fired a warning shot into the air, which prompted Doyle to attempt to escape. However, as Doyle fled, Persley reportedly fired four more shots from a 9 mm handgun, tragically striking Doyle in the back of the head and killing him almost instantly.
The Trial and Its Challenges
During the trial in District Judge Donald Hathaway Jr.’s court, the prosecution called upon nine witnesses to establish Persley’s guilt. Despite the lack of surveillance footage and only one eyewitness, the case was strengthened by a disturbing revelation that came to light during the trial preparations. Authorities uncovered a conspiracy by Persley and a fellow inmate, aiming to intimidate the sole eyewitness to prevent her from testifying. This information was crucial in demonstrating Persley’s consciousness of guilt.
Jury Deliberation and Sentencing
After approximately 90 minutes of deliberation, the jury reached a unanimous verdict, finding Persley guilty of murder. He is set to return to court on August 22 for sentencing. Under Louisiana law, he faces a mandatory life sentence in prison without the possibility of probation, parole, or suspension of that sentence.
Final Thoughts
The case has drawn significant attention in Shreveport, showcasing the complex and often tragic consequences of romantic rivalry. As the court prepares for sentencing, the community remains focused on the impact of this case, hoping to find justice for Devacseya Doyle and his family.
