Bloom at Bossier observes Memorial Day
BOSSIER CITY, La. (KSLA) — Among the events held Monday in observation of Memorial Day was a celebration at Bloom at Bossier Senior Living. Dozens gathered for the annual event.
A Salute to Service
“Being in ROTC and being able to participate is a very wonderful thing. And being able to sing these songs in front of these people is very uplifting and puts a smile on my face,” Parkway High student Cheyne Mace said.
The program included patriotic songs and a flag ceremony.
“It allows us to give thanks because their sacrifices have allowed us to live in the hopes and dreams of our country. And that’s the significance of it,” said George Cole, Reserve adviser at Barksdale Air Force Base.
Honoring Veterans
Among the dozens of senior citizens in the crowd were several veterans.
“The Navy gave me a sense of balance; it gave me some discipline that I didn’t yet have,” resident Glenda Rhodes-Hood said. She made history while serving in the U.S. Navy.
“It just so happens I became the first chief woman, female lithographer in the history of the United States Navy along with five other women from different areas of the country.”
Future Plans
Bloom at Bossier staffers said they plan to host the Memorial Day program again next year.
