Cloud Cover Conditions for the Eclipse Viewing

SHREVEPORT, La. – Here’s a cautiously optimistic update regarding the forecast for the eclipse. Viewing conditions look a little better for some people, especially in the northern zones. Still, expect some sort of cloud cover, but high-resolution model guidance shows some higher clouds only in the northern zones that should allow solar radiation to get through depending on the thickness. The further south you go, expect cloud cover to get thicker and rain chances to increase.

See the graphic below for cloud cover details. A mix of high and low clouds across the middle portion of the area is expected, it’s just a matter of how far up those low clouds stretch which is highly dependent on a few factors.

Debunking the Myth of Rain Ruining the Eclipse

Now, I see lots of comments on social media about how “it’s going to rain, so we won’t see the eclipse” and I want to debunk that. Yes, there is a chance for rain on Monday, BUT as of right now, the only places who could see rain during the eclipse itself aren’t in the path of totality rather further south. The majority of the rain holds off until later in the day where things could get severe.
