News Summary

Caddo Parish Public Schools introduces an app to streamline communication between parents, students, and educators, enhancing family engagement.

Shreveport, Louisiana – Caddo Parish Public Schools is enhancing its communication and family engagement efforts for the upcoming school year with the launch of a new app aimed at fostering better connections between parents, students, and educators. Superintendent Keith Burton announced that the app brings together multiple communication platforms into a single user-friendly interface, streamlining interactions and providing vital information to families.

The new app features a direct communication function, allowing parents and students to text teachers within the platform, which is designed to provide a more immediate means of contact. The app also includes read receipts, notifying users when their messages have been received by teachers. While all parents and guardians in the district can access the app, only high school students will have access to its unique communication feature.

To facilitate easy access, parents and guardians are encouraged to visit the district’s website at caddoschools.org to download the app. Additionally, QR codes will be available at various schools, enabling parents to quickly access the application. This modern approach aims to eliminate the outdated systems that relied heavily on phone numbers and physical addresses for communication.

Superintendent Burton emphasized that many families frequently change their contact information, which can lead to miscommunications. The new app is intended to provide a reliable communication channel that students and parents can depend on to stay informed.

Beyond communication, the app offers essential features that help families keep track of their children’s education. Users can check grades, view class schedules, understand transportation routes, access meal plans, and review attendance records. With the ongoing challenges of state-wide attendance, the attendance tracking feature is expected to support the district’s focus on improving these rates for all Caddo Parish students.

In conjunction with the app launch, Caddo Parish Public Schools is also addressing staffing challenges by hosting a job fair specifically for school bus drivers and attendants on June 2nd. This event will take place at the Wanda L. Gunn Professional Development Center from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The school district is enticing new hires with free Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training and a $500 sign-on bonus, provided they meet specific requirements. Prospective employees will have the opportunity to learn about available positions and interact directly with the Transportation Department staff during the fair.

Additionally, the district is set to host a Pre-K Roundup on August 1st from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. aimed at helping families enroll their children in pre-kindergarten programs. During this event, assistance will be provided with the application process to ensure that all eligible children can take advantage of early education opportunities. Families attending the Pre-K Roundup will need to bring certain documents for registration, including proof of residence or alternative residency documentation.

For inquiries regarding pre-kindergarten enrollment, families are encouraged to reach out directly to LaShonda Marshall via email or phone. This initiative, along with the enhanced communication app, underscores Caddo Parish Public Schools’ commitment to improving family engagement and support throughout the district.
