Huntington, LA – Quincy Myles, former standout defensive lineman at Louisiana Tech University, has been appointed as the new defensive line coach for the Huntington Raiders, under the direction of head coach John Simon. This addition is expected to bring valuable experience and a strong leadership presence to the Raiders’ defensive unit.

Coach Simon expressed enthusiasm about Myles joining the coaching staff, emphasizing their established friendship and prior experiences as teammates. Simon believes that Myles’ extensive background in playing and coaching will significantly benefit the team, especially in developing the young athletes on the roster. Myles has a rich history of coaching, having spent the last three years teaching and mentoring students, including his own son, at Linwood Charter Middle School, where he focused on balancing family and education.

Myles had a notable college career under the guidance of respected coach Jack Bicknell at Louisiana Tech. His accomplishments include being a key player on the team that clinched the Western Athletic Conference title in 2001 and participating in the 2001 Crucial.com Humanitarian Bowl. During his senior season, he was recognized with the prestigious 2003 Billy Moss Award, an honor given to the school’s most valuable defensive player. In that season, Myles recorded impressive statistics, including 65 total tackles, with 16 tackles for loss, marking the highest figure by a Bulldog player since 1988, along with 2.5 sacks, one pass breakup, one fumble recovery, two forced fumbles, and a blocked kick.

Before taking this coaching position, Myles also played professionally, representing the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings alongside former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Quincy Carter. His lengthy journey in football, both as a player and coach, solidifies his expertise within the sport and his capability to lead the Raiders’ defense effectively.

As he steps into his new role, Myles conveyed optimism regarding the current Raiders team, highlighting the potential he sees in the young players. He intends to focus on maintaining the Raiders’ winning tradition and developing talent within the team. Myles’ commitment to Huntington is evident in his personal connection to the community, as he emphasizes the sentiment of “once a Raider, always a Raider.”

John Simon, the current head coach who previously held a coaching position at Grambling State, is looking forward to collaborating with Myles and utilizing his knowledge to elevate the defensive strategies of the Raiders. The hiring of Myles marks a strategic move in building a strong coaching staff aimed at bolstering the team’s performance in upcoming seasons.

The Huntington Raiders and their supporters anticipate that under Quincy Myles’ guidance, the defensive line will grow in both skill and cohesion, laying the groundwork for a successful future for the program. With such a solid backdrop of achievements and a responsive coaching style, expectations are high for Myles and the Raiders as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
