Shreveport witnessed a tragic series of shooting incidents over the July 4th weekend that left one woman dead and another injured, increasing concerns about gun violence in the area.

The first shooting incident occurred on July 4, around 2:20 p.m., when a 32-year-old woman was shot while driving on Interstate 20 near the I-220 ramp. The severity of her injuries was serious enough to prompt immediate transport to a local hospital, where she was treated for what authorities described as potentially life-threatening injuries. As of the latest reports, no details regarding a suspect had been released.

In response to the initial shooting, approximately half a dozen units from the Shreveport Police Department arrived on the scene to conduct the investigation. The circumstances surrounding this shooting remain unclear, as officials had not identified a suspect at the time of reporting.

The following day, on July 5 at 7 a.m., a second shooting incident unfolded on South Windermere Drive and Beaufort Way. Authorities discovered a man outside a home who was suffering from a gunshot wound. Inside the residence, police found 40-year-old Corinthian Shepard with a gunshot wound to the chest. Sadly, Shepard was pronounced dead at the scene, marking a grim milestone as the 19th homicide in Shreveport for 2025. This incident contributed to a troubling total of 24 homicides recorded in Caddo Parish this year.

Richard Williams has since been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Shepard and is facing charges of second-degree homicide.

In a separate incident on the same day, emergency responders were called to a report of an armed person at the 8600 block of Dowdell Street around 10:08 a.m. An altercation between a man and a woman escalated, leading to a dangerous situation where the man barricaded himself inside a residence. Reports indicate that the woman threatened to shoot the man and forcibly broke down the door. Subsequently, the man allegedly shot the woman when she entered the home.

Officers later discovered the injured woman in a nearby wooded area, where she was uncooperative and had to be subdued with a taser. She was later taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. At this time, no arrests had been made related to the third incident, and the investigation is ongoing.

The string of violence over the holiday weekend has raised alarms among community members and local officials about the increasing frequency of shootings in Shreveport. As investigations continue into these multiple incidents, city residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
