Shreveport Reports Fatal Car Crashes Resulting in One Death and Multiple Critical Injuries

Shreveport, LA – A series of car crashes in Shreveport have resulted in one fatality and several individuals suffering critical injuries in the past few days. The most tragic incident involved 30-year-old Justin Brooks, who was killed in a car wreck on Highway 3132 on Wednesday, May 7, just after 2:30 a.m.

According to the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office, Brooks’ vehicle struck a concrete railing at the Dean Road overpass, resulting in his ejection from the car. Emergency responders from the Shreveport Fire Department confirmed Brooks was deceased at the scene. An investigation into the circumstances of this incident is currently underway.

Meanwhile, a separate crash occurred on Tuesday morning, around 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Hearne Avenue and Milam Street. Initial reports indicated that a woman involved in this crash had died; however, it was later clarified that she sustained critical injuries instead. This crash involved a Jeep Patriot and a Ford Escape, both traveling northbound on Hearne Avenue. As they tried to avoid a tire in the roadway, both drivers swerved, leading to a collision.

The incident escalated when the driver of the Ford Escape overcorrected, leaving the roadway and becoming airborne before rolling into a ditch. This driver was ejected during the crash. Simultaneously, the Jeep driver also overcorrected, resulting in a head-on collision with a metal light pole. Reports state that none of the occupants in either vehicle were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accidents.

All occupants were taken to area hospitals for treatment. One passenger is reported to have sustained life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition, while others have either been released or are being cared for due to non-life-threatening injuries. As of now, no citations have been issued, and the investigation into the Tuesday crash is ongoing.

Matthew Rhoden, aged 37, was killed in a crash involving his sports car and a van at approximately 2 p.m. on Friday on West 70th at Broadacres. Officer Rhoden’s vehicle collided with a van that turned into his path, causing his car to veer off the roadway and roll over into a vacant house.

Another officer who was accompanying Rhoden at the time of the crash sustained serious injuries and is currently hospitalized. The investigation of Officer Rhoden’s crash is being conducted by the State Police. The Shreveport Police Department has requested the community’s prayers for both the officers involved and their families during this difficult time.

The recent events have raised concerns about road safety and the necessity of seatbelt use among vehicle occupants. As investigations continue into all the incidents, local authorities urge drivers and passengers to prioritize safety measures to prevent further tragedies on the roads.

These incidents illustrate the dangers inherent in driving and the potential devastating consequences of road accidents. Community members are reminded to be vigilant on the roadways and to report any dangerous conditions to ensure the safety of all drivers and passengers.
