# Driver, 65, Killed in I-20 West Crash in Shreveport, La.

SHREVEPORT, La. — A 65-year-old man died late Friday, Nov. 6, after his pickup left Interstate 20 West near Jewella Avenue in Shreveport and rolled over, police said.

Officers were sent to the stretch of westbound interstate at about 11:22 p.m. Police said the Chevrolet Silverado drifted off the roadway, climbed an embankment and slammed into two trees before ending up on its roof.

The man was pinned inside the wreck. Shreveport firefighters worked to get him out, but he was declared dead where the truck came to rest. Police described it as a single-vehicle wreck, and no other drivers or passengers were reported hurt.

Investigators from the city police force’s crash unit took over the case Friday night. Staff from the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office came out to the interstate as well, which is routine when a death happens on a roadway in the parish.

As of the weekend, police had not said what sent the pickup off the road. They have not pointed to speed, weather, impairment or a mechanical problem, and they have not said whether the driver had a medical emergency before the truck left the lanes.

The man’s name had not been made public. Families are normally notified before a name is released, and the coroner’s office handles that step in Caddo Parish deaths.

The crash happened on the westbound side of I-20 in west Shreveport, near the Jewella Avenue interchange. Anyone who saw the truck leave the road late Friday can contact the Shreveport Police Department, whose investigators are still piecing together the final moments before the wreck.
