SHREVEPORT, La. — Vegans on the Run, one of the few fully plant-based places to eat in Shreveport, has moved into a permanent home on Texas Avenue, adding another new storefront to a block just outside downtown that business owners say is coming back to life.

The restaurant had operated without a brick-and-mortar location before this opening. Its menu leans on Southern comfort food made without animal products, so regulars can still order dishes such as gumbo and fried chicken in vegan form.

Its owner said the history of the street helped decide the location. The stretch was once known as Black Wall Street, and she said that history is part of why she kept pushing through delays to open there. City Councilwoman Tabatha Taylor and Caddo Parish Commissioner Victor Thomas were among the elected officials who came out for the ribbon cutting.

The restaurant shares the block with Sipp House, a coffee, tea and wine shop next door. Sipp House held a soft opening in March and a grand opening in July after construction on its space began in August 2025. Its menu runs from hot and cold specialty coffees and lemonades to mimosas, pastries and small bites, and it hosts themed events.

The pairing was a coincidence. The Sipp House owner, who grew up in the Shreveport area, learned during construction that her new neighbor would be Vegans on the Run, whose owner had once taught her as a college professor. The two have since helped run each other’s counters and teamed up on events such as a plant bingo night.

Both owners have teamed up on events, and both describe the West End block as a spot many people in Shreveport have not discovered yet. They said they hope the openings draw more businesses to fill in the rest of the street.
