SHREVEPORT, La. — Shreveport and the rest of the ArkLaTex get a quiet, warm stretch on Sunday and Monday, but a cold front is lined up to bring a wide band of showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday, Election Day.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Shreveport said warm, humid and drier conditions return today and Monday after the Halloween weekend rain. Early Sunday they issued a Dense Fog Advisory for parts of east and northeast Texas, southwest Arkansas and north Louisiana, so morning drivers should allow extra time until the fog lifts.

The next system arrives late Monday night. Storms that form along a dryline in Oklahoma and north Texas are expected to weaken as they move in overnight, but the weather service said isolated strong to severe storms will be possible across the region Tuesday as the line pushes east along the cold front.

Local forecasters said the exact timing for Shreveport is still uncertain, with the storms possibly arriving in the morning or the afternoon. Voters heading to the polls should watch for some flash flooding and street flooding in the heaviest rain.

Monday should stay very warm and mostly dry under high pressure, with low clouds returning from the east-southeast late Sunday night and the wind picking up as the front gets organized to the west. That gives residents a day to clear gutters and storm drains and secure anything loose outside before the rain arrives.

Cooler, drier air follows the front. Highs drop into the 70s starting Wednesday, and morning lows should reach the 40s on Thursday and Friday, closer to normal for early November.
